On the Twelfth Day … or the Day After …

Of late many of my posts have been as long as my “dreams have been dark”. This one I feel will be shorter as it is by it’s nature more simplistic. Lucky lucky you!!

Well the Summer deep has come and gone and yes, as I have mentioned to some I have been as busy as a one legged man in an arse kicking competition. Summer is the time for running around and being the sort with too much to do in too little time and that describes my world aptly.

But here I have a moment on this twelfth day when the tree comes down to make a little something clear – my total and utter opposition to the latest wave of stoopids from the victim elite.

We have all been subjected to it at one stage or another – the usual long angsty poems and wailing how oppressed they are. This is of course not to mention how uppity and offended they get when you point out that they act like victims and so attract predators! There was an excellent example of this recently and when I get a moment to edit out certain particulars (to allow the saving of face by those who most need it) I will post a summation here.

I am not even referring to the latest trend which is, it seems that everything must be somehow related to the origins of Judaism! Hell I got no problems with Judaism per se. I have even quite bemusedly defended it from some that have little or no idea why or how it came about and functioned/s – BUT there is a hidden problem with the latest fashion (why not? There usually is!!) Here is the question no one is asking while they are all busily reading books and scribbling for various “educational” institutions: “What has that got to do with me?”

Unless you subscribe to the whole “The male patriarchy oppresses we the few” bull shit it really has not much more to do with us than a passing historical reference. The same can be said for the Bahai but I don’t see the modern neo pagans railing against them!! No it is worth remembering that these people so busy investigating this subject will be later lauding it up about how they are such informed pagans and witches. Hell some have even held such activity up as their credentials … not as comparative religious students of course – but as pagans and witches. Bizarre yes …. Actually happening DEFINITELY.

Why is this? I am ALL FOR studying different religions and comparing and contrasting them. Apart from the fact that well informed lay people make up the basis of a sound society, it is a highly respectable and USEFUL pastime for the “seeker”. (Note that I said “seeker” – this means that it should be the sort of thing one does when finding their way. When one has FOUND (note the tense!!) their way such things hold little interest because one’s own personal path holds all the relevant answers one needs.)

It is also important to note here that simply because one spends years involved in comparative religious studies that does NOT make you a pagan – much less a witch!

The same of course can be said for the current “hard on” people have for academia. The books you read are only as good as your ability in the first place. I have seen students glean visions of the future and the true nature of the universe from Disney comics. I have also seen supposed academic scholars who are hard pressed to take a single step beyond the repetition of alleged facts uttered to sound “in the know” to understand that which sits on the end of their nose!! But all this is fine for the now and I will go into it all further later when I have the time.

Ok to get to the point I came to make – Christmas.

Gods I am sick of the pseudo intellectual and try hard wanna be bullshit that goes round on this subject! “Oooeewww it’s Summer not witer!!!” “Oeewww its commericial” “Oeewww it’s Chistian” “Oeeww I’m a Pagan!” blah blah blah!

All these and other statements are designed to give vent to various people’s need to be seen as more “pagan/witchy than thou art” – not to mention TO BE SEEN AND HEARD!

Here are some facts – I invite all who wish to do so to cudgel people with them until they grow up:

Celebrations for midwinter and midsummer in various forms existed long before the advent of Christianity and indeed even Judaism and NO this does NOT validate the foolishness that is the “panto” of today’s practice!! The sort of crazy make believe that cloaks most modern practice (when it’s practitioners haven’t assiduously removed anything of value and worth!) is NOT justified by the fact that some people had parties many years ago. The modern wishful thinking view of “seasonal celebrations” is as vapid as the rest of the balderdash that is usually presented with it as “proof”. The modern wheel of the year is as made up and disjointed and make believe as the druid priest of atlantis flying the space ship.

Even our dimmest ancestors knew the value of AND ENJOYED commercializing every minute of every day for fun and profit! Gift giving and trading ESPECIALLY have been with us since prehistory – and THEREFORE has little or NOTHING to do with Christianity, Judaism or the rise of the modern supermarket!! Waaaah it is Christmas and I don’t LIKE IT! Perhaps if you got a drink and a bellyful, a couple of prezzos back and forth and some decent sex you wouldn’t BE whining about it all! Get a life and the rest will follow!

Christianity has a well-proven track history of appropriating the customs and celebrations of others. It did so with this time of the modern calendar – SO WHAT!? Pagans ALSO have a proven track history of doing the same – only these days the modern neo pagan movement does it with far less finesse and point than Christianity ever did! FACT FACT FACT! What is about today may well have a spiritual line back to prehistory in that we are human and they were human and we wondered about much the same things when we had the time BUT this is pretty much where it ends. The practices of today are NOT NOT NOT those of yesteryear and that is because we change and ADAPT!!! Paganism and witchcraft have NEVER suffered quite so much under the weight of precious namby pambying as it does today! It was never precious – it was fact and one of the biggest facts is that whatever does not evolve and take advantage of whatever comes it’s way DIES OUT. Now it is simple – either it continues and this has been one of the reasons or it hasn’t survived … so much for the modern debate!

“I’m a PAGAN/WITCH” is the most tediously stupid and immature excuse I have ever heard for being a pain in the ass about Christmas. WHO CARES WHAT RELIGION YOU ARE? ONLY YOU!!! (And there is ANOTHER subject for a future column!!) I am sick of hearing people go on about their latest little fringe religion and how that makes them so damn special. It then follows that everyone else must treat them special (only they call it equal!!) or else they are being oppressed.

I FAIL to see why belonging to a subset of faiths and practices that are historically RENOWNED for the exuberance of their parties and reckless daring of it’s people makes so many so damned weak assed when it comes to Christmas!

As I have said to several this last season: “What the hell is your problem? Christmas is NOTHING MORE than the latest name for what used to be one of our celebrations – who gives a rats what name is given to it? What difference does it make what it is called by people who aren’t like us? Hell even that Jesus infant who was NOT born at this time of year was only first recognized by three MAGI! You remember them – the three “WISE MEN” – those three fellers that started the whole Christmas Present thing!??!?! If ANYONE has ANY right to ANY kind of historical connection to this time of year before and after the birth of Jesus it is US so STOP YOUR BITCHING and GET A SKINFULL!!!!”

Oh and PS – Santa was one of us too before he was turned into a Saint!!!
