A long time ago before ere I slept

I said to some that if they could not cope with a fantasy then reality was something they'd not earned from me.
...
Contrary to the desires of some in that I did not lie.
...
No one ever listens until it is too late.

GEHENNA PRESENTS:

THE RISE OF THE DARK CHILDE

Proposed: Eleven are needed. Those who know will know who they must be.

A rebellious independent, a hunter, the insane, the cautious, the beautiful, the proud, the sighted and the magical, cross carriers two and one to speak the LAW.

[The Promise]

Two people start toward each other from opposite sides of the audience with a glass in their hands. They raise their arms and drink from the glasses and then move back to their places.

NARRATOR:

"Forget ye now thy follies and gather!
List ye now to that which is thy past!
I dream of the first times, the longest memory.
I speak of the first times, the oldest Father.
I sing of the first times and the dawn of our darkness
Here in Babble-on where the light of paradise; lights our sky and the tears of our parents shall wet the ground!

COME! COME NOW FOR WE KNOW YOU ARE NEAR! COME THEE HITHER!"

They have come.

And each of us in our own way set about to live and take sustenance in our own way.

ALL MOVE OUT TO ONE OF THOSE WITHOUT BACK TO THEIR SPACES WITH THEM.

One stands back to back with the victim.

One holds rapier across the throat of his victim.

One holds victim in a tango embrace.

One takes victim's hands and places them lightly on her face she does the same to the audience member.

One stands behind the victim turns it's head one way, hers the other.

One stands behind victim with hands over it's face.

One places a hand either side of victims head at arms length and tilts his back.
One places a hand either side of victims head at arms length and tilts his back.

[ALL THESE TO VICTIM BUT LOUD ENOUGH TO BE HEARD BY ALL]

"Know that you are made to be unmade. You are the white lamb, the gentle sacrifice.”

"I shall further the knowledge of the house and clan and share with it's members all that I find in my search for wisdom and power.”

"Throw off the elders shackles of the mind, reach into thyself and see truth revealed.”

"In quiet you will know beauty, in beauty you will know truth, in truth you will know love, in love you will know quiet.”

“You are the children of shadow. You are the sons and daughters of Darkness.”

“We ruled in Enoch! We ruled in the second city! Dumuzi! Gilgamesh! Zeus! Jupiter! We are every great man, every perfect woman.”

“Lo my children you will walk the Earth. You will hear my voice in your ears like a distant birds cry or lion's roar.”

“I see you watching where I walk, through moonlit Jasmine fields. Listen closely as I talk, about the stars and their lovers past.”

“Open thy eye, and see the world truly, and know that what you do now goes on to heal another generation.”

“I swear this oath, woe to they who tempt me to break it, woe to me if I do.”

“Know who you are first and be true to yourself. For I would sooner shatter you like flawed pottery than have your weakness.”

“Find your greatest part of joy, follow it and know that I watch you enthralled, my children, my creations, my beautiful ones.”

“My children, look not at your visage to curse me, for I know that beauty lies within, and no greater beauty will there ever be.”

“We rule not by strength, but by might! We are the lords of the earth, and all things fall under our dominion!”

“And you will know what to do. You, a child of the beast, a child of darkness are first among the kindred.”

“I dance the dance of the fool, and pray you find me mad. For if you lay hands upon the root, you'll know me, and find me guilty of the truth.”

[ALL RELEASE THEIR VICTIMS BUT STAY KNEELING ON EDGE NEAR THEM]

[“STRONG AS I AM”]

“And in this truth we now repeat!”

[ONE TURNS TO NARRATOR AND BIDS HIM KNEEL AS CROSSES ONE AND TWO ENTER HOLDING A BLADE AND GLASS]

“Thou shall not reveal yourselves as gods to the children of Seth.”
“Thou shalt not slay thy sire and drink his heart's blood..”
“Thou shalt not embrace the diseased.”
“Thou shalt honour each others domain.”
“Thou shalt honour each others house.”
“Thou shalt hold the eldest among you as lord.”
“Honour and teach the progeny.”
“Thou shalt not embrace love.”
“Protect those who serve.”

[DURING THIS ONE SLITS HIS ARM AND FILLS A GLASS]

“I swear this oath, woe to they who tempt me to break it, woe to me if I do."

[NARRATOR TAKES GLASS, TURNS AND HOLDS IT ALOFT, THE OTHERS WRAP HIM IN A WHITE SHEET WHILE HE REPEATS THE OATH. HE THEN DRAINS THE GLASS. HE THEN ASSUMES THE CROSS POSITION AND THE OTHERS SUPPORT HIM AS HE LEANS BACK]

“Forgive me Father for I know what I do.”

[CROSSES ONE AND TWO TAKE THE GLASS FROM HIM AND KNEEL IN FRONT OF HIM]

[WAITS UNTIL MOMENT PASSES]

CROSS ONE TO AUDIENCE: “Behold ye this crucifix; what does it symbolize? Pallid incompetence hanging on a tree!”

CROSS TWO TO AUDIENCE: “Open your eyes that ye may see, ye of mildewed minds!”

BOTH: “Lo and Behold – All this is fraud!”

ALL TURN ON THEM AND COVER THEM WITH THEIR ARMS.

LIGHTS OUT.

Well now of course it was a fantasy.
...
But like ritual of any kind it is a container of cultural imperatives and taboos.
In this case those of a time past and of those who projected it onto the object of their veneration and their fear.
...
If only instead they had listened - rather than speaking.
If only they had asked - rather than telling.
If only they had come to the point - rather than hissing at others in shadows.
Perhaps then they may have learned - rather than becomeing the fantasy they put on others.

Make peace with the Sun.
Make peace with the Son.
Make peace with the Self.

What's the Time Mr Wolf?

It is a big place filled with life... Idle? I do not even know the word.
-
Can YOU hear it?
It comes.
-
Can YOU feel it?
It comes.
-
Can YOU know it?
It knows YOU.
-
I ride it as I was born to.
-
There was much said in here before now.
I remember it all.
-
I wonder if anyone else does.
No matter now.

The Hour is Late.
Later than most think.

I walk to and fro within it yet ye see me not
