Say ... What the ....?
We have seen repeatedly how her testimony is based in living in Canewdon, having talked to all those "in the know"and that this really is the basis upon which her rebuttals tend to rest.
In essence then, I would LOVE to attack the information she has forwarded on the subject but well - there hasn't been much of that that isn't pretty thinly veiled versions of the previous statement!
We have seen so far that, (in actuality) while she did live there - it was for a couple of years as a teenager.
We have seen that of the people she spoke to some, (at least one) DID in fact mention that Old George was "thought of as a witch".
We have seen that of the people she spoke to they were NOT the people of the area who were known to know about the subject to hand.
We have seen that of the people she spoke to no one thought to direct her to those actually "in the know".
THEN we see that she doesn't actually remember who she spoke to!?
Now we have a new chapter that makes us wonder about her testimony all over again.
Yesterday she said (again emphasis mine):
HOW'S THAT AGAIN!?!?Re: George Pickingill - the man, the family, and those connected
to him in any way « Reply #50 on: Yesterday at 11:52:49 »There used to be two pubs in Canewdon, the Anchor which was my local and the /chequers which for some reason I never used. There was also two pubs in Paglesham, the punch Bowl and the Plough & Anchor
She drank at the Anchor?? Really did she?
You see *I* remember the statement (emphasis mine):
!?!?!?!?!!?« Reply #148 on: 2006/Nov/30 @ 14:52:19 » Re:George Pickingill's nine covens
Strange thing - I lived in Canewdon for a few years in the late seventies (my parents owned one of the shops beside the garage). As far as the locals are concerned Old George was simply a local character, he had no connection with witchcraft or cunning people. I have also been told that the photographs supposedly of him were in fact taken years after his death and are another local resident. It seems that George like my Great Grandfather was a horse whisperer, something that was held in great esteem in rural Essex until the coming of the tractor, nobody considered him an occultist and the general feeling was that he was very poorly educated, certainly not capable of setting up nine covens. It is doubtful if he ever traveled any further then Southend, let alone the New Forest. The locals found most of the stories about their village a joke and generally found the influx of ghost hunters laughable and those that invaded the churchyard every Sahmain a nuisance, only the local pubs were pleased to see them.
My pub, the Chequers used to put his prices up for visitors at this time
So let me get this straight. She has claimed time and time again to have lived there, spoken to all "in the know" and they said no Old George connected to magic in any way.
But ok .... now we see that while she didn't speak to anyone in the know, that some still did think of him as a witch, that *she* thought he was a Horse Whisperer, that she couldn't actually remember who she spoke to .. and now she doesn't even remember WHAT PUB IT WAS!?
I know what people would say of me if I tried to pass that scenario off!!
I just don't know anymore. Now I feel I have to query everything she has ever said!
I'd have to ask is she even sure what village it was!?
Perhaps her surety over the fact that it should all be laid at the feet of Cunning Murrell is due to her being say - in Hadleigh instead? I am sure she'd snort that *she'd* surely know where she was but she wants us to believe that the five hundred or so people in Canewdon would confuse the local celebrity with Murrell who lived elsewhere and was dead by then anyway - so where is the difference? And besides - she shows by these two quotes that she doesn't tend to know where she drank at all.
(It would be a poor joke to be made were I to go on about having a bender and attributing it to witchcraft but it is tempting!)
If she is au fait with the Pagelsham Pubs and was doing so much research at various "establishments" why doesn't she regale us of the stories of the Pagelsham witches?
So far everything she has repeatedly said has been shown to be wrong or baseless and now she CAN'T SEEM to even remember WHAT PUB it all HAPPENED IN!?
And all this in the face of her spieling out what she remembers of the area in the thread with Stilly? I must say in the light of recent elucidation, it just sounds to me like a desperate attempt to reassure an audience that she DID ACTUALLY live in Canewdon after all - of course all this and more could be said by me based on map research and looking at local photos so who can say. Hell I am sure the same could be said for nipping down there for a weekend.
For the record I actually don't disbelieve she lived there at all.
What actual shop did she say her family owned again?
Oh yes ok ... one of the ones next to the garage ... wonder if she has forgotten which one that was as well ...
