Swimming in Bulldada!

Well now as some of you may be aware I have had a recent birthday.

Well ok it wasn’t so recent but what with one thing or another, illnesses, and the like it seems only a day or so since. A great big long tiring blurry day I will grant you!

NOW let me tell you a tale of many summers ago which sums up my views on birthdays in most ways. Years ago my ol mum asked me what I would like for my birthday and I replied: “What I would really like is for you to get me a subscription to Fangoria Magazine”

Now we lived in Gympie then so I added: “You may have to get the newsy to look it up as I don’t reckon they will know it but yeah that is what I would like.”

She responded by sighing loudly and rolling here eyes before asking if there was anything simpler she could get cause that sounded like a lot of hassle.

My response was unpleasant but roughly translated as: “If it is too much damn bother then DON’T!”

You see I love old memories and obscure things – sometimes these old memories crop up on a stand beside the check out at Big W but more often than not they don’t.

THIS is WHY I LOVED this last birthday!!!

This year for the first time en masse I have been ladelled memories by everyone.

First off the ranks was a small Raideen figure. True it is not the same as the bog one I got for my fifth birthday … but it is just so neat! About mebbe ten centimetres tall this wee robot is everything cool old robots used to be before they all got cleaned up for the modern audience.

Further on from that I got the stage show of the “War of the Worlds” which was just one memory after another. Jeff is in fine form, Justin looks great … ohhh how can you go wrong? I will admit that I thought the star casting for Parson Nathaniel and Beth was off and not as good … but meh! Such small matters between a man and his memories!

Then P and H got me the copy of 300 that I had been hanging out to see.

Then they hung about and watched it too – fabulous!

I had heard the soundtrack and said: “Even if the film was just people being stabbed and hacked to the music it would be beautiful!” Well yes it pretty much was and it was beautiful – I especially loved the warped impure soothsayers being bribed – just lovely.

THEN after that came a cavalcade of unsurpassed bulldada that I weep to even think on.

A DOUBLE DISC of The Beast from 20 00 Fathoms and THEM! – How can you go wrong with a Harryhousen mix of warnings from the black and white atomic scare days? I mean seriously I thought my throat would catch when I saw THEM for the first time since I was a kid – and it really did.

Then there was the other DOUBLE FEATURE. Now THIS is special!!

I Bury the Living and The Hand.

Now what makes it so special is and I quote:

Remember the Drive-In Theatre? The stale popcorn, the warm soda pop, the steamy windshields?

Elite Entertainment takes you back to those warm summer nights from the past, recreating a night at the Drive-In Theatre with Drive-In Discs. This multi-volume collectible DVD series includes a complete double feature Horror Show. Each volume of this nostalgic series features the original Drive-In extras that we all remember, including Cartoons, Countdown Clock, Concession Stand Ads, Previews, Intermission and more! Plus -- Elite presents the latest in Low-Fidelity technology...Distorto Sound!

To truly recreate the Drive-In experience, we have a secondary audio track which will replicate the sounds of a Drive-In Theatre. Note: This feature will deliver the soundtrack of the film to only the front left speaker of your system. Other "sounds" will be heard from the remaining channels. You'll feel like you're really there!

Now I ASK YOU – how does it get COOLER than THAT!?

At last Discs I will want!!! WOOHOO!

THEN (YES there WAS MORE! I am STILL REELING!!!) there was a fist full of cool flicks including: The Stuff, The Tingler and SSssss (Which we knew over here as Ssssnake!)

THEN on top of that I got myself Revenge of the Nerds, Santina got me Nightbreed and with vouchers sent from the Northern arm of the clan I got the original Batman movie and the Once Upon a Time in China trilogy.

No I still haven’t made it through them all but I tell you – I am in HOG HEAVEN!

And oh so magical ... anyone who doubts the use of old movies as an occult tool doesn't "get" the joke ... not at all!
